t feels like just last week when we first came to Chelsea High School. We got out of that train station, cab, car, or what have you, we looked at the building and said, “Please tell me that ain’t my school.” But although our first impression may not have been as good as we had hoped, high school in general and Chelsea in particular has definitely made a lasting impression on us.

We have to remember that we are like clay. Although pressure may distort our appearance and cause weakness in our foundation, it can also mold us into better people. As people look at the holes, the marks, the blemishes in our clay-like structures, they won’t point out the negative, but instead our elastic potential to mold ourselves into an even better person.

Some of us are extremely shy, while others will go on the train singing songs about sparing some change. Some of us care about what others think of us, while some guys would walk around the hallways in tight girls’ coats thinking they’re diesel. I have met some of the funniest people, who are going to put smiles on people’s faces and cramps in their sides. Every one of us has our own glow; we are comedians, actors, doctors, nurses, musicians, designers, hairdressers, the list goes on. Whether we grow up to be like Martin Luther King or Martin Lawrence, like Dr. Stallone or Dr. Dre, like Bill Gates or Bill Clinton, we are going to give the best we can, and that’s all anyone can expect. We have come a long way, and since freshman year, many familiar faces have dwindled away. Now it’s time to show the world how we made it this far.
